What is great about Costco is how they just make huge piles of their inventory for everyone to see.  That way people can go “Wow, they sure have a lot of Product A in stock!” But what if the product can’t be left on the floor because of theft and you leave it at a special counter near the cash registers? What do you fill your floor with to impress your customers with your mad stocking skills?

Simple, you print cardboards with pictures of iPods, you stack them into boxes, and you stack the boxes on skids. Takes the exact same physical space, but no product to be stolen!

Of course there’s a huge waste of paper, ink and resources to maintain all of that but who cares, right?
